Personally I am partial to the straight jaw style. For cars and ATVs: 15 inch units commonly called 1 1/2″ for the opening size. For Trucks and medium duty: 17 inch units commonly called 1 3/4″ for the opening size. For heavy duty: 22 inch units commonly called 2″ for the opening size.
The Sawyer 3rd hand is a great pipe clamp. It works on 1 1/2 to 4 inch pipe. Great tool as is most everything from Sawyer.

Pro locking pipe clamps are great for round stuff. These sport vise grip style handles.
Soap stone in a neat package. Holders fit in shirt pocket or pants pocket. You have a much greater chance of finding it if it’s in a holder.
